How Many Sessions Will It Take?

For optimal results, most clients require three sessions spaced four weeks apart. The number of sessions is customized based on your skin’s needs and desired outcome.

What's the Downtime?

There is little to no downtime! You may feel a mild sunburn-like sensations that usually lasts 1-2 hours.

Who is NOT A Candidate?

Anyone who has melasma, has had recent prolonged sun exposure or plans to.

Please check with the office before booking if you have been on an antibiotic in the two weeks leading up to your treatment.

Pre-Treatment Instructions*

Prior to the treatment, clean the treatment area. The treatment area should be free of any makeup, creams, perfumes and lotions. Male patients should shave just prior to treatment (the pigment in your beard could increase discomfort).

Discontinue sun tanning, use of tanning beds and any application of sunless tanning products one month before the treatment.

Always use an SPF 30 or greater sunblock on all exposed treatment areas. Wear sun protective hats and clothing.

Discontinue the use of exfoliating creams and retinols 1 week prior to the entire treatment

If the patient has a history of herpes outbreaks in the areas being treated, a prescribed medication, like Valtrex, is recommended prior to the treatment to help prevent an outbreak.

Discontinue all photosensitizing medications (ex: tretinoin, doxycycline or minocycline any antibiotic that causes photosensitivity) at least 2 weeks prior to treatment.

Post-Treatment Instructions*

A mild sunburn-like sensation, lasting 1-2 hours (up to 24 hours), is expected, along with possible redness, swelling, or tenderness. A cool compress may help after 4 hours. Keep the area warm for the first 4 hours post-treatment.

Use a topical anti-inflammatory for redness, or an oral non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (acetaminophen or ibuprofen) as directed.

Rarely, prolonged redness or blistering may occur—please call us if this happens.

Shower normally, but avoid soaking in hot water, scrubbing, exfoliating, or using retinoids until the area returns to its pre-treatment state.

Pigmented lesions may darken and appear raised with a red border for 24-48 hours. They will eventually darken, flake off in 7-10 days, and may sometimes scab—call us if this occurs.

Do not pick or scratch any scabs. Let them naturally flake off, with healing typically completed in 7-10 days. Lesions will continue to fade over the next 6-8 weeks. Keep follow-up appointments, and contact us if you have concerns.

The treatment takes 30 minutes.

How Many Treatments Can I Do?

What Should I Expect During the Treatment?

Expect mild discomfort, although we do apply a topical numbing cream before being treated to help minimize any pain! You should also expect to hear loud “snapping” noises!

To ensure the best results from your treatment, please follow these guidelines:

• Discontinue 3 days prior to treatment:
  

  • Any retinoids or hydroquinone (HQ) products

  • Anti-inflammatory medications

  • Fish oil supplements

• Hydration: Drink at least 64 oz of water for 2 days leading up to your treatment.

• Herpes History: If you have a history of cold sores or herpes, please request prophylactic treatment prior to your appointment.

Following these steps helps maximize results and minimize potential side effects.

Post-Treatment Instructions*

• Redness: Mild redness is normal and can last from a few hours up to a few days. Almost all treatment areas will experience some erythema.

• Sensation: Immediately after your procedure, your skin may feel like a mild sunburn. Most patients experience minimal discomfort, but applying a cool compress (not direct ice) or a soothing gel/lotion can help ease any sensitivity.

• Sun Protection: Protect your skin from the sun and environmental exposure by using a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher daily.

• Peeling: A few days after your treatment, mild peeling may occur, similar to a sunburn. Do not pick at peeling skin, as this can cause scarring. Continue to follow your prescribed skincare regimen for optimal results.

Pre-Treatment Instructions

Discontinue blood-thinning medications (such as fish oil, flaxseed oil, Vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, ibuprofen, Motrin, Aleve, and red wine) one week before treatment to reduce bruising. If you take aspirin, stop it 48 hours before treatment, unless prescribed by your doctor.

Post-treatment expectations

Some redness and swelling may occur, potentially forming a “cat scratch” scab for 8-12 weeks.

Leg vein resolution takes 8-12 weeks, with some veins fading completely and others lightening.

Avoid the following for 5 days

Intense exercise

Alcohol, aspirin, Advil, or blood thinners

Hot showers, baths, hot tubs, or saunas

Sun Exposure

Wear SPF 30 sunscreen for a month on all treated areas.

Cold compress: Apply to reduce redness and swelling, but avoid direct ice to the skin.

For leg treatments: Wear support hose (20-30 psi) continuously for 3-5 days. Available at medical supply stores, pharmacies, or online.

Gentle care: Wash the treatment area twice daily with lukewarm water and mild soap.

How Many Treatments Will It Take?

To get the desired results, patients are generally recommended to receive a minimum of 6 treatments, but varies by patient and size of tattoo.

Pre-Treatment

Avoid sun exposure including tanning beds for 2 weeks prior and 2 weeks after the treatment. A cold compress can be applied for 10-15 minutes prior to the treatment. Avoid pain medication such as Motrin, Aleve and aspirin 3 to 7 days prior to the treatment

Post-Care

After treatment, you may experience mild discomfort and redness, which should subside quickly. Redness can last 24-48 hours.

For 3 days, keep the treated area covered with non-stick pads (available at CVS/Walgreens—Band-Aid brand) and apply an antibiotic ointment.

While showering, keep the dressing on. Afterward, gently wash with mild soap, rinse, pat dry, and redress.

Avoid standing water (bathtubs, pools, lakes, oceans) for at least 7 days after treatment.

After 7 days, apply SPF with zinc every 80 minutes if exposed to sunlight.
